Cough cough wheeeez wheeeeez sniffle sniffle whine whine…that’s been the most common combination of sounds and activities from Ms. Riley from about Tuesday until Sunday this week. She’s doing fine now and getting back to her old tricks (and some new one’s that I’ll mention shortly), but Riley was diagnosed with the croup earlier this week, she was definitely not feeling well for most of the week. Beth was a trooper and stayed home with her and more importantly, stayed UP with her on Dad’s teaching nights. It was heartbreaking to listen to her cry when she couldn’t really move enough air to make much of a sound at all. Normally you can hear her wail from quite a distance, but when she was sick even if she was on your shoulder it was more of a whisper than anything. Luckily we have great doctors and they were very patient with us and saw Riley twice during her illness. Now on to happier, more exciting news…
Firstly – there are new pictures up in Flickr, Riley had some very nice pictures taken at day care – it’s hard to believe that she’s such a little lady now and not the baby that we brought home 15 months ago. Dad did some quick scanning to get the pictures on-line, but he needs to go back and make sure he’s got good, high resolution images so that if folks want to print their own copies they can 🙂
Secondly – Riley demonstrated that not only can she walk now, but she can climb too! Dad left his seat on the couch to grab something from the kitchen and Beth started yelling “You’re not going to believe this!”. When I poked my head back into the den, what did I find but Ms. Riley sitting all by herself in Dad’s seat on the couch! She was quite proud of her until now hidden ability to climb up on the furniture. She’s also been successful in tracking down the cats (especially Max) and giving them some of her ‘gentle touches’. Riley is actually quite good with the critters and gives nice, slow, gentle pets – but sometimes she still gets a bit excited and gets a little bit grabby too.
That’s all for now, Mom and Dad are hoping that Riley decides to let us have another night of rest and sleep through the night. She was falling asleep sitting up in her high chair during dinner so we’re hoping that’s a good sign! Chat to you all later –
